Beirut Explosion

The catastrophic deadly potential of Ammonium Nitrate was broadcast to the world on Tuesday 4th August. In time, there are many questions to be answered as to how 2,750 tonnes came to be stored for so long, and so close to a major city with a population of over 1M people, for the moment our thoughts are with families waiting for news of loved ones. The incident is a reminder that while many of our lives are filled with form filling and regulations, the clear HD clips of the explosion and blast wave show what can happen if certain conditions combine at the wrong time in the wrong place. Here in the UK the explosion has focussed attention at the storage of A.N, and the essential need to store it properly. All FACTS qualified advisers are aware of storage requirements for A.N and all oxidising agents, which are any fertilisers with the yellow diamond below:
