Fertiliser Focus – 6th January 2020

COFCO International Quadri Logo

Urea

The New Year kicked off with an Indian Urea tender. MMTC Ltd (Metals and Minerals Trading Company of India) had received of offers for 1.1M tonnes. However, only 700k tonnes appears to have been approved by The Indian Department of Fertilizers possibly for funding reasons rather than any market positioning. Closer to home the UK market is still shaking off the Christmas and New Year celebrations, but it is expected that the European market will get going very soon, it still has big tonnes to buy and usage will come before the UK. Lack of readily available tonnes from Egypt should prevent any further price reductions.

Ammonium Nitrate

At the time of writing the two UK producers have yet to re-publish terms for A.N and N.S for January. Speculation that they would review terms was common pre-Christmas, talk of fresh cargoes of imported material into the north of the UK for late January early February will focus the minds.

New Years Honours

Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones born in Jamaica was given the name ‘The Black Farmer’ by his neighbours, a name he used to set up The Black Farmer food brand has been awarded an MBE for services to British Farming. Peter Barfoot founder of Barfoots set up in Botley, Hampshire in 1976 and now a global vegetable business has been awarded a CBE for services to sustainable agriculture.

Spreader Testing

It’s that time of year again to get your fertiliser spreader booked in for what is essentially it’s MOT test. Fertiliser product information from spreader manufacturers can be patchy and with a wider range of products on the market, product choice changing year on year, more than it’s ever done in the past, this test takes away the guess work and ensures accurate spreading of this valuable input. To enquire or to book a test call Russ Davison on  07825 925485 or e-mail rdavison@cofcointernational.com
